HIS STORY
Daniel Woodtli, born 19th of January, 1974 in Bern, began playing
the trumpet at age 10. After a mostly classical musical education
and a diploma as a primary school teacher, Daniel completed his
musical education between 1996 and 2001 at the Swiss Jazz School
in Bern. His teachers were Bert Joris and Bill Williams. Furthermore
he has attended several workshops and lessons with Stephan Geiser,
Matthieu Michel, Claus Stötter, Malte Burba, Bobby Shew, Juanito
Munguia, Nicolas Payton, Ingrid Jensen, Claudio Roditi, Wynton Marsalis,
Terell Stafford, Bill Dobbins.
In his early years Daniel Woodtli gained musical experience through
chamber music ensembles, in symphonic orchestras, in the "National
Youth Brass Band", in soloist concerts, in funk bands, dance
music orchestras and musical productions, however he quickly found
his passion in jazz.
During his education as a member of the "Swiss Jass School
Big Band" Daniel participated in some immense performances:
Jazz Festival Montreux (1997), Jazz Festival Bern (1997/1998/1999),
New York Tour (1998, concert in the legendary "Birdland")
with guests such as Clark Terry, Bob Mintzer, New York Voices, Bobby
Shew, Johnny Griffin, George Robert and Phil Woods.
Further highlights were certainly winning first place in the "Chrysler
Jazz Competition 2000" at the Montreux Jazz Festival with his
Sextett, or playing with the "Benny Golson All Star Big Band"
(2001), a week long project with such greats as Benny Golson, Randy
Brecker, Buster Williams, Carl Allen, Mark Soskin, Wayne Bergeron,
Vincent Herring or Dave Taylor.
Nowadays Daniel Woodtli teaches Jazz Trompet at the Bern Conservatory
and at the Swiss Jazz School. He is active as a versatile soloist,
sideman, studio musician, composer and arranger, mostly in jazz
but also in musical production and contemporary "Nu Music"
Daniel has been diligently leading his own small formation, "the
Daniel Woodtli Trio" since 2001.
The newest news: Daniel Woodtli is playing with the famous swiss pop band "Patent Ochsner".
